Teens spend an average of seven hours and 22 minutes on their phones a day, and tweens -- ages 8 to 12 -- are not far behind, at four hours and 44 minutes daily, according to a new report by Common Sense Media, a nonprofit that promotes safe technology and media for children.
This amount of screen time does not included time spent on schoolwork, according to the report. When figuring in activities such as reading books and listening to music, the numbers jumped to nine hours and 49 minutes for teens and five hours and 54 minutes for teens.
Most adults need at least 7 hours of sleep per night to wake up feeling rested and mentally fresh. Limiting your sleep raises your risk for developing many health problems such as diabetes, depression, or cardiovascular disease.
You have a 7 hour layover in Amsterdam. Is it worth exploring the city? 7 hours between flights is a long time to be waiting around at an airport. How should you spend your layover, and is it enough time to leave the airport?
Such as what time of day your flight arrives and departs, can you and your group quickly leave the airport, do you need to go through customs, and most importantly, whether there is enough time to do what you want in Amsterdam. If you only have 2 hours to explore Amsterdam, is it worth it to you?
Obviously, this does not give you as much time in the city as you may have wished for. Taking all of this into consideration, you may only have an hour, maybe two hours, to see Amsterdam.
Another tip would be to join the Facebook group Schiphol Live in English, which monitors the lines at the airport in real time. Travelers share wait times, delays, and tips on when to arrive at the airport for your flight.
A 7 hour layover in Amsterdam is cutting it close, especially with how busy and understaffed the Amsterdam Airport has been. I think if you have a layover that is 9 hours or more, it is a safer bet to leave the airport to tour Amsterdam.
It will give you enough time to grab some food and famous stroopwafels. Also, you could book a quick tour, like a canal cruise. A canal cruise is an incredible way to see and learn about the city in a short period of time. This is the one that we did and really enjoyed!
If you have already checked your luggage and your trip is booked on one ticket, your luggage will be checked through to your final destination. If you have an exceptionally long layover or have booked with third-party sites like Kiwi, I would always double-check with the airline first.
Tickets for the Anne Frank House can only be purchased on the official website. I highly suggest you book your tickets in advance. Every first Tuesday of the month, all tickets for the following month become available. Once they sell out, there is no waiting list for tickets.
If you want to remain in the terminal during your layover you could consider taking a pod-like room at the YOTELAIR which is in the airside Lounge 2 terminal (non-Schengen departures). The minimum stay is 4 hours, hand-baggage only.
For a comfortable visit to central Amsterdam our recommendation would be to have at least a 6-7 hours transit. Travel to the city is best made by train or taxi. You can book a taxi in advance at a fixed rate with Sneleentaxi
But if you have at least 6 hours to spare for a stopover in Dubai and want to get the most of your time, I have two suggestions for how you could spend your time. These tips are based on our experience and the places we found to be most worthy to see in Dubai.
Neither option is very expensive, but the metro might be faster, especially during rush hours. On the other hand, metro stations in Dubai (especially the one at the Dubai Mall) are often very far from the actual place, so you have to do lots of walking. Booking a private transfer might be the least stressful option.
TIP: I really recommend you stay in Dubai at least one night instead of just doing a quick Dubai layover. Immigration can be hectic and it will be very stressful if you only have a couple of hours between the flights.
@Jurga, I was wondering the same thing. I'm travelling from USA to Cairo and I have a layover for 7 hours in Dubai and wanted to visit Downtown Area. I was wondering if my PCR test taken in the USA will be good to get back in my Dubai to Cairo flight?
Hi Dewi, my first idea was to tell you to go to a waterpark, but it's quite expensive and probably not worth the hassle for just half a day. I think I have a better idea. Why don't you take a taxi (it's quite cheap - metro will take too much time because you have to walk far) and go to the Mall of Dubai and visit Burj Khalifa? Our kids loved it, we loved it too, and it doesn't require much time (just make sure to book tickets in advance). If you have some time left after that, you can see the fountains and maybe also take a look at the big wall of the Dubai Aquarium inside the mall (you don't have to get tickets or stand in line to just see it from the outside).Enjoy your trip!
We are flying to Australia next week and our travel agent convinced us to do a stopover in Dubai. We have less than 24 hours (1 night) in the city and were wondering what to see, so this is very helpful. I now regret we didn't book 2 nights.
Fact: The quantity of sleep you get is important, sure, but it's the quality of your sleep that you really have to pay attention to. Some people sleep eight or nine hours a night but don't feel well rested when they wake up because the quality of their sleep is poor.
There is a big difference between the amount of sleep you can get by on and the amount you need to function optimally. According to the National Institutes of Health, the average adult sleeps less than seven hours per night. In today's fast-paced society, six or seven hours of sleep may sound pretty good. In reality, though, it's a recipe for chronic sleep deprivation.
While sleep requirements vary slightly from person to person, most healthy adults need seven to nine hours of sleep per night to function at their best. Children and teens need even more. And despite the notion that our sleep needs decrease with age, most older people still need at least seven hours of sleep. Since older adults often have trouble sleeping this long at night, daytime naps can help fill in the gap.
The best way to figure out if you're meeting your sleep needs is to evaluate how you feel as you go about your day. If you're logging enough sleep hours, you'll feel energetic and alert all day long, from the moment you wake up until your regular bedtime.
Think again. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, discovered that some people have a gene that enables them to function well on six hours of sleep a night. This gene, however, is very rare, appearing in less than 3% of the population. For the other 97% of us, six hours doesn't come close to cutting it.
Breaks under the new HOS rule can obviously run longer than the 8/2 and 7/3 splits that add up to 10 hours. And if the longer of the two breaks in any split goes a full 10 hours, then drivers can reset their 14-hour and 11-hour clocks entirely.
2. Send the document to a library that's open for visits. Send your document at least one hour before you will pick it up. You'll have 12 hours to pick up any documents you've requested. Print requests are deleted after 12 hours. Be sure to check your pickup location's hours before you send your document.
Book drops and Self-Check-in are open on days that libraries are closed. However, we aren't available to assist if book drops are full or if Self-Check-in is out of order while we're closed. If Self-Check-in is out of order after hours, please return items to your library's book drop.
Wi-Fi remains on, during normal library hours, until further notice. Connectivity outside the library building varies by location. Comcast has some low-cost options for people without internet access at home.
Still, it may be possible to teach yourself to get by on sleep less, according to Jim Horne, a sleep expert and former director of the Sleep Research Centre at Loughborough University in England. He argues the number of hours people need to sleep is more flexible from person to person and that concerns about not getting your nightly seven or eight hours are often overblown. 2ff7e9595c
